Our Story

With drywall dust and fresh paint in our first home, we stared at the space and realized that we had no idea how to set it up. We had a couch delivery next week, and our existing premium speakers and furniture weren't going to fit. 

Sarah tapped into some creative concepts from her time at Disney Imagineering and asked, "Can we turn wall art into speakers?" With Mike's (B.S. ME/EE, MASc EE) mechanical and electrical engineering background, the theory seemed plausible, and as luck would have it, we accidentally stumbled on the exact acoustic tonewood that would turn this concept into a reality.  

After four years of development and real customer feedback, we created a new wireless amplifier and complementing gallery-style frames so the question of "What do I put on my walls to be clean, calm, functional, and inviting?" has a simple answer: Knot Audio.

The Science

So how does it sound?

We're biased in saying it sounds amazing. We'll hold ourselves back from sounding too technical, but they fill the room with crisp vocals, warm melodies, and a surprising amount of punch.

But how are you hiding the speaker? Where are the grille holes?

We use proprietary DML technology to vibrate a soundboard (like a piano or acoustic guitar). This, along with a proprietary surface treatment makes your artwork itself a part of the speaker. You won't find a fabric mesh or perforated art print, but instead you'll find beautiful artwork and beautiful sound.

Can I really use any print?

We designed the speaker to fit your home without compromising on sound quality or volume. Behind the speaker is, quite literally, a soundboard which is tuned to allow sound to transmit through any picture or art print. No special paper and no fabric mesh is needed with our proprietary technology. 

How do I connect to the speakers?

With our fully wireless setup, we support the services you already use (Spotify Connect, Airplay, Bluetooth Auracast). 

We have an app to setup the speakers. Once the speaker is connected to your network, you can use any of the regular streaming services straight from your device: Youtube Music, Apple Music, etc.

Does it work with my TV?

If you're connecting to the speakers through a TV, you'll be able to connect directly to our speakers through Bluetooth or Airplay (Apple TV) and our speakers handle the rest. 

There is a physical switch on the speaker to select left, right, or center channels to make sure you can get the proper stereo experience.

Does the speaker need to be plugged in?

The speaker runs off of a standard USB-C power, however, there is also an optional rechargeable battery pack that lasts 8 hours - making it unplugged long enough for a dinner party or get together.

Which way does the cord go? Can I change the color of the cord?

Cord management was one of our biggest concerns for our customers. We don't pretend to know what will look best in your home. 

You pick the print. You pick the frame color. You pick landscape or portrait, with the cord going vertical or horizontal. You can have the cord going straight down, up, left, or to the right. You can even change your USB-C cord if you want that to be a different color or length. We want this speaker to truly be yours.

Does the speaker work with surround sound? Is the subwoofer wireless?

Yes! The speaker is made to be a 2.1 stereo system if used with the additional subwoofer. Each speaker has a left / right / center channel switch for easy listening. The subwoofer is completely wireless and can be placed anywhere in the room with power.
